Hand-dyed
yarn produced from Massachusetts sheep and spun for
laceweight, sport weight, and sock yarn . Most Sojourner Design yarn is spun in Massachusetts.
I'm gradually stocking my new Zibbet shop; if you subscribe to my blot you'll see announcements as items are added.
Light Sport Yarn
Approximately
425 yards of 85% wool, 15% nylon. Spun in Massachusetts from
Massachusetts sheep. Great for socks (one skein will produce a
pair of men's socks on Size 2 needles), vests, sweaters, etc. I
also weave and embroider with it and have used three strands at a time
for rug hooking. A
hand-washable farm yarn. Each yarn skein has been rinsed in
Eucalan after dyeing.
These
photos at left and right represent typical colorways for this yarn dyed in a variegated technique.
The color
changes flow gradually to prevent the jarring "clown vomit" effect,
so aptly-described by Clara Parks, that discerning knitters worry about when
considering variegated yarn. There are many one-of-a-kind
colorways as
well as four skein dye lots. I use a multiple-step dyeing process
to increase the complexity of each colorway, and when possible I do not
re-skein so that the customer can see how the colors flow into each
other.

OUT OF STOCK
04011307 2nd Dye Lot Denim:
the color gradation is more obvious in this dye lot
than I had planned; it may not be appropriate in a laceweight project
that emphasizes structure... still a lovely yarn! 6 skeins
available, 415 yds each.
Violets: I
reached for periwinkles with my dyeing, but came up with violets
instead; a happy failure! 7 skeins available, 415 yds
each.
Coopper Lace Out of stock
Single-ply yarn, about 1435 yards per pound,spun
in Massachusetts from the wool of Massachusetts flocks and
hand-dyed in small amounts by Sojourner Design. The colors are
rich because the underlying yarn is gray. Please note: this yarn
is not soft so it's not appropriate for a next-to-the-skin item.
