Prefelts

Sojourner Design
offers a large variety of hand-dyed and
natural-colored pre-felts. A prefelt is carded wool which has
begun but not completed the felting process. My prefelts are
carded wool that has been needlefelted by my processing mill into batts
that measure about a yard square and weigh about 14 ounces. I
cut these batts into quarters and dye them into many hues.
Variations include:
-color over white
wool vs overdyed blended or streaked wool
-even dyeing vs
variations in saturation or even splotchy, tie-dyed
appearance
-one hue vs a
collage of subtle hue changes

In most cases the
felting process should be continued until the prefelt
has actually been fulled to felt. Although there are people
far more knowledgeable about this than me, I will provide a link here
soon to help clarify this process.
Because of the
degree of variability it is much easier to buy prefelt
in person. My suggestion is to look at the photos above to
get some sense of what is available, then go to the prefelt listing at
my Zibbet shop and contact me there about what you're looking for.
If I have a good match we'll proceed with a sale.
But what can you do with
pre-felts?
Keep on scrolling to have a look at some of my projects!
Please note that most of these projects were undertaken
before I really appreciated the benefit of fulling prefelt.
At this point most of the items pictured below would be more
fulled if I were completing them today. That said, I just
love doing a little embroidery doodling on a prefelt!

By the way... all yarn shown is my own hand-dyed yarn.
